By car:

There are two routes. If you come for the first time to Monterrico, we recommend you to take the following route:

From Guatemala City you take the highway south to Puerto San Jose. Just after the city of Esquintla, you turn left to Taxisco and follow the route to La Avellana. There you take a ferry (also your car can use a ferry) and you experience a beautiful, 30 minute trip through the canals of Monterrico. Getting there, take the asphalt road to Puerto Viejo. Some 3 km. from Monterrico, at Km. 21.8 you turn left towards the beach and where you find Utz Tzaba.

A faster route is this one:

From Guatemala City you take the highway south to Puerto San Jose. There you turn left to Iztapa, where you take a quick ferry ( 5 minutes). Follow the asphalt road till Km. 21.8. Turn right towards the beach and where you find Utz Tzaba.

Public transport:

If you come by public transport, the best option is to arrange the daily shuttle service (approx. $ 10.00) from Antigua Guatemala. Information and reservations in every travel agency in Antigua.
