By car:

There are two routes. If you come for the first time to Monte Rico, we recommend you to take the following route:

From Guatemala City you take the highway CA9 south to Escuintla. Just after the city of Escuintla, you turn left to route CA2 going to Taxisco and follow the route to La Avellana. There you take a ferry (the car goes on the ferry) and you will experience a beautiful 30 minute trip through the Chiquimulilla canals. Getting there, take the asphalt road to Puerto Viejo, 3 km. from Monte Rico, at Km. 21.8 you turn left towards the beach and you will find Utz Tzaba.

A faster route is this one:

From Guatemala City you take the highway CA9 south to Puerto Quetzal. Almost getting to Puerto Quetzal there is an over pass so you turn to Iztapa, where you have to cross the Beronica Mishel Bridge paying a toll of Q.15 ($2). Follow the asphalt road till Km. 21.8. Turn right towards the beach and you will find Utz Tzaba.

Note: Do not pay any toll besides the Highway to Escuintla or the Beronica Mishel bridge ones.

Public transport:

If you come by public transport, the best option is to arrange the daily shuttle service (approx. $ 10.00) from La Antigua Guatemala. Information and reservations in every travel agency in La Antigua Guatemala.
